New Year, New Goals

Hello, I’m Cathy. Welcome to From Scratch Baking! I hope you’ll visit often and we can become friends. How’s the New Year going for you so far?

I’m not sure where last year went (did it go fast for you too?), but it is now a brand new year, another “fresh start” at something new. While I had set goals for last year’s resolutions; I just didn’t get to all of them. And I’m ok with that.  Did this happen to you?

Organization

I’ve read from other bloggers that many start the New Year out with a word that will define the year for them. I’m game, so I’ll give it a try. My word for this year is going to be ORGANIZATION! I even bought myself a planner, complete with fun stickers, to help me stick to this word goal.

Plan, Plan, Plan

Here we are, in 2019, our last “teen” year; time to set goals that I hope to aspire too in the coming year. It’s also a time to revisit what “fell short” from last year.

For me, it was this…blogging. While I wanted to start my blogging journey last year, it just didn’t happen. And that’s OK. What did happen though was a lot of planning. So it wasn’t a complete fail. I’ve learned a lot in the planning phase. I also know that I can’t plan for everything…and as another January is upon us, I realize I just have to start. So here I am, starting now!

What I’m About

Simply put, it’s baking from scratch. Mixing real ingredients together to make something tasty that brings the family around to enjoy it.

I was lucky enough to be “upgraded” to a new mixer this Christmas – my old one was literally being held together by a rubber band (and needed some duct tape too). While I will miss my first Kitchen Aid, I’ve already taken the new, shiny, not held together by a rubber band Kitchen Aid out for a test “mix” and all I can say is – WOW! Stay tuned for some recipes we can try out together.

Family Goals & Challenges

As I set baking and personal goals for myself, I’ve also set some for my family in the form of challenges. As any parent whose kids watch YouTube, you know challenges are still all the rage so I figure I’d jump on the bandwagon and accomplish some goals for them.

This will take place in the form of two monthly challenges: one is to get everyone moving and the other is to boost self-esteem.

To start, our “moving challenge” consists of walking for at least 30 minutes three times per week at the park district track. To feed our self-esteem, the kids have a “bullet journal challenge” for each month, getting them off the electronics to write and/or draw. I also hope it gets them talking to one another more too, and not in the form of a Snapchat message!

My Goals

What type of goals have you set for you and your family? Besides blogging and family challenges, I’d like to bake from scratch even more for my family and to share that with you. I’d like to inspire you and young bakers alike. Time in the kitchen can be fun and exciting…and the rewards are delicious!

Mistakes may be had along the way, but “mistakes” are true learning experiences that can be rewarding (and still pretty yummy) too. I’m in no way a perfect baker, so I’ll show you things that didn’t work for me so we can learn together.

What You Can Find Here

I’ll post how-to’s, recipes and decorating tutorials, helpful hints and whatever we can “bake” up together – I’ll even have some treats for your fur-babies in “Gracie’s Corner.” And because we have food allergies in our home, everything I do is always nut-free.

Gracie

So cheers to another New Year, to another start. I hope you enjoy this journey with me. I hope we can get to know one another and work together to make the coming year as great as we want it to be.
