Top 10 Baking Tools for Cookies

Whether you are new to baking or looking to update your baking wares, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite baking tool must-haves that any novice or expert baker should have in their kitchen. While there are different tools used for different types of baked goods (such as cake pans for cakes), this list centers around the basics of what every baker may like for baking up their favorite cookie recipes.

The Basic Tools for Your Cookies

Who doesn’t love a good cookie? My family prefers the classic chocolate chip cookie over any other type of cookie I can bake for them. Below you’ll find my top 10 list of baking tools I find helpful when making chocolate chip cookies for my crew (or any other cookie I’d like for myself)!

Top 10 Must-Have Baking Tools

1. Cookie Sheets

I use two half sheet pans for cookie sheets so I can have one ready to pop into the oven while the first batch is cooling. Pro tip: cookies should cool for about two to five minutes on a cookie sheet before moving them onto a cooling rack. Having at least two cookie sheets can speed up the baking process.

2. Silicone Baking Mats or Parchment Paper

There is no need to wonder if you need to grease your cookie sheet if you use silicone baking mats. You can also line cookie sheets with parchment paper. While I prefer using pre-cut parchment paper, it may be easier to store a roll of parchment paper.

3. Cooling Racks

Once your cookies are ready to be moved from the cookie sheet, you can transfer them to a wire cooling rack to finish cooling down. I like the tiered system of cooling racks since they take up less counter space.

4. Cookie Scoop

Using a cookie scoop ensures all my cookies are the same size. Cookie scoops come in various sizes, from small scoops for the typical-sized cookie to large scoops for those larger style cookies.

5. Liquid Measuring Cups

Measuring a liquid ingredient for a recipe requires the right liquid measuring cup. It is essential in getting the correct amount for your recipe.

6. Measuring Cups

Even if you weigh your ingredients, having a nice set of measuring cups to measure out your dry ingredients is always a good idea.

7. Measuring Spoons

Another item to have are measuring spoons. It’s always easier to use a measuring spoon for smaller measurements, like vanilla or baking powder.

8. Mixing Bowls

I like having mixing bowls that are microwave-safe in case I need to quickly melt an ingredient, however, I also use stainless steel bowls for measuring out (prepping) my ingredients.

9. Whisk and Spatula

I prefer to use a whisk on dry ingredients to stir them together, like flour and salt for example, before adding those ingredients to my mixer. I’ll use a spatula to scrape down the sides of my mixing bowl to ensure my ingredients are fully incorporated.

10. Stand or Hand Mixer

I love my Kitchen-Aid stand mixer. While I use the 6-quart mixer that lifts the bowl into place, either a 4.5 quart tilt-head Kitchen-Aid mixer or a Kitchen-Aid hand mixer work great for your cookie baking needs.
