Apple Filling

Ingredients

  • 3 apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Instructions

  • Peel, core and chop apples into bite-sized pieces. 
  • Place into a saucepan. Pour lemon juice on top of the apples and stir.
  • Add sugar, cinnamon, allspice and salt to the apples.
  • Cover the saucepan. Cook on medium heat until apples are simmering, about 5 minutes.
  • While the apples are cooking, create your slurry by adding the cold water to the cornstarch. Stir until smooth.
  • Pour over the apples. This will thicken the apples. 
  • Stir over medium-high heat until the mixture thickens and the liquid is bubbling. 
  • Once boiling, stir and cook for about 1 minute. 
  • Remove from heat and cool.
