June is the official kick off to summer. And with that, those warm sunny days and long evenings we’ve craved during those cold months are finally here. As the weather heats up, I like to cook outdoors, making this the perfect time for grilling dinner. June also brings with it an array of great produce, which is perfect for those lighter meals, like salads. No matter your taste, this June menu plan is geared towards grilling, salads and more.

Summertime Menu Planning

Whether you’re firing up the grill for a classic BBQ meal or searching for a new summer salad to try out, summer fruits and veggies offer endless possibilities for delicious meals during the summer season. Here are four ways you can get your summertime menu planning underway:

  1. Keep It Simple. Don’t over-complicate your meals. June is a great time for quick and easy dishes that take advantage of the fresh, seasonal ingredients available during the summer.
  2. Plan Seasonal Meals. Planning meals ahead of time, hitting the farmer’s markets and shopping the sales may save you money while obtaining the freshest produce available. Focus on seasonal items, like stone fruits, melons, asparagus and summer squash.
  3. Use Leftovers. Find creative ways to make a new meal or two from leftovers. For example, leftover grilled chicken can be used in salads or sandwiches while leftover grilled vegetables can be added to pasta dishes.
  4. Grill Food. Summertime is the perfect time to cook outdoors. Grilled chicken, fish and vegetables are all great dinner options. Even pizza or fruit can be cooked on the grill.
