Ingredients You’ll Need (and Why)

Butter – butter adds richness and flavor while keeping the treats from becoming too sticky.

Marshmallows – mini marshmallows give that classic sweetness and chewy texture.

Rice Krispie Cereal – rice cereal gives the crispy and crunchy texture.

Vanilla – a touch of vanilla enhances the sweetness and adds a warm flavor.

Robin Egg Candy – crushed Whoppers Robin Egg candy adds crunch, flavor and festive spring colors.

Helpful Baking Tools

Pan – an 8×8” baking pan is the perfect size for thick and chewy Rice Krispie treats. Lining the pan with parchment paper makes it easier to lift the treats out and for easy cleanup.

Measuring Cups and Spoons – measure accurately with measuring cups and measuring spoons. Or, use a kitchen scale and weigh ingredients.

Microwave-Safe Bowls – you’ll need a large microwave-safe bowl for melting the butter and marshmallows and for mixing the entire mixture together.

Spatula and/or Spoon – non-stick and flexible, silicone spatula is perfect for mixing sticking ingredients. A wooden spoon can be used to mix and stir the mixture.

Cutting Board – use a cutting board to crush the candies and to cut the treats into squares.

Rolling Pin – while optional, a rolling pin can be used to smash the candy. Just place candy in a Ziploc bag to avoid a mess.

Cookie Cutters or Knife – use an egg-shaped cookie cutter to create a festive treat for Easter, or use a knife to cut into squares.Use kid-safe knives for little bakers.

Tips for Soft and Chewy Treats

For soft and chewy Robin Egg Rice Krispie Treats, follow these tips.

  1. Read labels to make allergy-friendly treats. If avoiding any specific allergen, be sure to read all labels diligently. Use plant-based butter to avoid dairy, use gluten-free cereal and candy to avoid gluten, etc.
  2. Use fresh marshmallows. For best results, be sure the marshmallows are fresh so that your treats are soft and chewy.
  3. Grease your baking tools and hands. Use cooking spray on your spatula, wooden spoon and bowl to keep the marshmallows from sticking. Keep hands from getting sticky by wetting them with water or lightly spray with cooking spray before pressing the mixture into the pan.
  4. Microwave slowly. To avoid overheating the butter and marshmallows, microwave in small 15-30 second bursts, stirring in between each, to prevent overheating.
  5. Stir gently. To keep that crunch, stir the cereal and candy gently to avoid crushing the cereal. Then, gently press the mixture into your pan to keep the treats from being too hard and dense.
  6. Create individual servings. Make individual treats easier by using a muffin pan to press the mixture into, eliminating the need to cut into equal squares.
