Honey – used as a sweetener and binder.
Baking Tools Needed
Cookie Sheet – if you’re toasting the oatmeal, use a cookie sheet lined in parchment paper for easy cleanup.
Mixing Bowl – you’ll need a medium-sized mixing bowl to mix ingredients.
Measuring Cups and Spoons – measure ingredients accurately with measuring cups and measuring spoons.
Spoon or Spatula – use either a wooden spoon or silicone spatula to mix ingredients together.
Container – store treats in an airtight pouch to keep them fresh.
Helpful Tips for Making the Best Puppy Bites
Want to make these treats even better? Here are four helpful tips to ensure they turn out perfectly every time.
- Choose high-quality ingredients. Use unsweetened SunButter and avoid any brands that contain added sugar or xylitol (which is toxic to dogs). If you choose to use peanut butter instead, check the ingredients for dog-safe options.
- Adjust the texture. If the mixture feels too sticky, add a little more oatmeal. If it’s too dry, a small splash of water or extra SunButter can help bind it together.
- Try different shapes. Use small silicone molds for fun-shaped treats or roll them into simple bite-sized balls. You can even flatten them with a fork for a classic “cookie” look.
- Watch portions. Adjust treat size based on your dog’s size, activity level, and dietary needs. If you’re unsure on what size to make or give your dog, check with your veterinarian.
